The Funnel Web air filter was designed and manufactured by Infiltration Pty Ltd, an Australian owned company that has over 30 years experience in foam filters.

Foam air filters have been used on Off Road motorbikes for almost four decades and are now a standard part on the vast majority of Off Road motorbikes worldwide.

The basic design of the foam filter has had little change since its inception, so we decided to do something about it.

We used the latest technologies in open cell polyurethane foam profiling to substantially increase the surface area of the filter, not only offering more protection, but allowing the filter to last longer before cleaning and re-oiling.

Tough injection moulded urethane seals were chosen for precise fit, positive sealing and strength across most of the range, while flexible neoprene seals are fitted to some filters, including the Minibike range.

Over the years, nearly two thousand filters have been tested in some of the harshest conditions imaginable to give us the confidence to bring Funnel Web to market.

With the invaluable help of the Motorex KTM Off-Road and JDR KTM Factory Racing teams, we have been fortunate enough to be able to use the best test beds available: racing.

Along the way, Funnel Web filters have been fitted to KTM race bikes and have played a small part in their numerous Australian race and championship victories.

WHY CHOOSE A FUNNELWEB FILTER?

1. The foam!
Funnel Web's profile cut foam effectively doubles the outer surface area of the filters, without increasing the original size of the filters, allowing it to trap and hold much more dust on the outer surface, which means more protection for the engine while maintaining optimum airflow and extending filter service intervals.

The single-layer, single-density polyurethane foam has the added advantage of being easy to clean and the ability to maintain its original shape after numerous cleanings. Since the dirt is spread over a much larger surface area, the restriction of airflow caused by dirt build-up is substantially minimised. Overall, compared to conventional foam filters, Funnel Web offers more protection against dirt ingestion, has longer service intervals and maintains high airflow rates when dirty.

2. The filter seal!
Most FunnelWeb filter seals are made of injection moulded urethane for a durable and precise fit on the filter support frame and inside the air box. Foam seals, as fitted to other brands of filters, will tend to warp after a few cleanings, resulting in a poor fit to the support frame, possibly affecting the filters sealing ability. Not all filters in our range are suitable for moulded seals and the few that are not are fitted with neoprene / nitrile foam gaskets.

3. Development process
Funnel Web Filter has been developed over more than five years with the assistance of the Australian KTM Race motocross and enduro teams. Numerous combinations of foam profiles and porosities have been tested in harsh and dusty race conditions and test tracks to arrive at the ideal combination. Over 1,500 filters were manufactured, tested and repaired and reused, or cut for inspection before any were made available for sale.

4. Australian manufacturing
We specialise in the manufacture of selected filters for off-road motorbikes. Our range will be expanded in the future to include other models and off-road vehicles. All components and packaging are Australian made and the product is assembled in Australia.

FILTER CLEANING AND GREASING INSTRUCTIONS
The best place to repair your foam air filter is in a workshop, not on the trails or in the pits. It is not only an extremely complicated job, but also one of the most important and must be done correctly.

Carrying 2 or 3 properly greased air filters ??for the trail or race will save you the hassle of having to repair the filter while you are out and about. Having a spare filter support frame is also a great idea. They are reasonably inexpensive, readily available and make filter changes outside the workshop much easier.

For best results, use only a specific foam filter oil and air filter cleaner to repair the filter. There are several brands of filter cleaners and oils readily available, designed specifically for this purpose. Avoid using engine or transmission oils in the filter, as they tend to drain out of the foam much faster than sticky filter oils.

Petroleum-based cleaners are not ideal for the environment or the user and may also eventually degrade the filter foam and the adhesives used to bind them together.

1. When to clean
Any foam filter requires periodic visual inspections to look for "dry" areas of foam or excessive dirt build-up on the filter. Dry areas appearing on the surface of the filter are a good indication that it should be serviced. Dirt build-up can also restrict airflow and reduce performance.

The Funnel Web filter is made with pyramid profile foam that doubles the surface area of the filter. This allows more dirt to be trapped before drying or loading. An indication that the Funnel Web filter requires cleaning is the drying of the peaks of the small pyramids over its entire surface.

2. Clean the filter
Carefully remove the filter from the air box and shake or brush excess dirt from the foam.

Remove the filter from the support frame, pour or spray a foam filter cleaning solution onto the foam surface and massage thoroughly until the oil and dirt have been dislodged. Rinse the foam with clean water and, if necessary, repeat the process.

Shake off excess water and place the filter in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight until dry.

3. Greasing the filter
Dry foam will not stop dirt! A dry area as small as the size of a coin will allow dirt to enter in a virtually unrestricted path to the engine. Therefore, it is imperative that the foam is thoroughly greased.

The best way to ensure that the filter is properly oiled is to completely submerge the foam in filter oil and squeeze out any excess. (With its strong urethane sealing gaskets, the FunnelWeb filter can be gently squeezed out without deforming the seal).

Pour a bottle of filter oil into a good quality 4 or 5 litre container with a tight-fitting lid.

Immerse the filter completely and squeeze the excess oil back into the container. Replace the cap and the oil is ready for the next filter service. (A 1 litre container of oil should be sufficient to grease approximately 10 motorbike filters).

Allow the filter to sit for 15 minutes and then massage the foam to spread the oil evenly.

Replace in the filter support frame and allow to air out, allowing all the thinning agents in the filter oil to disperse (refer to the oil manufacturer's instructions).

Carefully clean dirt from the inside of the air box where the filter is sealed.

Apply a coat of grease to the filter seal and replace it in the air box.
